TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE YEAR 2009/2010

 

      ADVANCED COURSE ON APPLICATION OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS (MICROSOFT EXCEL AND PROJECT)

IN MANAGING ENGINEERING PROJECTS

 

The Objective of the course is to equip the participants with profound knowledge and skills needed for the application of Microsoft Project and Excel in managing engineering projects.   This will in turn increase efficiency in project management and facilitate to increase control and rationale use of resources.

The Course Content:

MICROSOFT EXCEL

Introductory Part will cover; Data and data entry, review of formulas and functions, relative and absolute cell references, worksheet formatting, data analysis using charts and keyboards short cuts.

Intermediate Part will cover; Logical functions, data filtering, data sorting (basic and complex), summarizing values, multiple worksheets references, creating, displaying and printing using views and page properties and printing.

Advanced Part will cover; Automatic tasks using micros, sharing workbooks on a network, sharing information and graphics between programmes. Linking sheets and files, preparation of unit rates and link with the Bill of Quantity (BoQ), design of work programmes, preparation of simple drawings and security of cells, sheets and files. Each part will include case studies and exercises.

MICROSOFT PROJECT

This part will cover; Fundamentals of Microsoft Project, entering and scheduling the tasks list,  entering and assigning resources and costs, viewing the project data base, update and view project progress, balancing project progress, working reports, working with multiple projects and customizing the project. Case studies and exercises will also be covered for the purpose of facilitating in depth comprehension and assimilation of delivered materials.

In addition, at the end of the course, there will be four hours dedicated to introduction of E-mail and Search Engines for engineering, documents.  Note that during the training course each participant will be assigned one computer that is connected to the internet.

Participation to the course is open to all those who are interested in acquiring knowledge or sharpening their skills in the application of Microsoft Project and Excel in managing engineering projects.  Prospective participants include Engineers, Technicians, Valuers, Estate Agents and Managers, Architects and Quantity Surveyors, Consultants, Contractors, Clients and other relevant Government and private sector institutions. Certificates will be issued to successful participants upon completion of the course.

The Course Fee is TSh. 800,000 per participant.  The fee covers expenses for lunch, mid-break refreshments and course materials. Participants should make their own travel and accommodation arrangements. Note that the course is limited to 20 participants and therefore, early booking is important.
